On Moving and Storing Records

Its been a while since I've had a chance to post here. Long story short, my past month has been full of cardboard boxes. Paola and I moved into a two bedroom apartment together in the beginning of the August. I'll spare you the gritty details, and just say we love our new place but will miss The Loft and living with Mike a lot. One of the unexpected changes was trying to find a place to put everything—especially my record collection. Also we stumbled upon a beautiful antique drafting table. Something I've been wanting for a long time. Continued with pictures inside...

I have to clean out some space in my office to make it fit but it will be worth it in the long run to have a dedicated surface to draw. I'd like to start working on a typeface with Paola.

As for the records, it was a major relief to find a place to put them. The eight boxes in the corner were a horrible eye sore. Its a good thing I have a gig in Binghamton this weekend or I don't know when I would have been motivated to unpack and organize them. I was originally going to commission a furniture builder to make me a cabinet of my own design that would store all the records and hold the turntables. However time and money were two stumbling blocks. In the end I found a rolling storage cabinet at West Elm that would fit records and the decks. Unfortunately it wouldn't even hold half my records. I guess it was good luck that my old roommate Raj gave me a storage bench from Ikea. It just happens to fit three columns or records perfectly and then roll out of sight under the bench.
