Controversy in the Neighborhood

Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston

Looks like we're getting some new neighbors pretty soon that will be sure to stir up some trouble. A block away from my apartment in Brooklyn the Capla Kesting Fine Art gallery will be exhibiting a sculpture of a seductive Britney Spears giving birth titled, "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston." The artist is Daniel Edwards and the show runs from April 7 through April 23.

As long as the chants and screams don't wake me up in the morning, I say its just art not a law. Save your convictions—either way—for things that count. This is a publicity stunt for the artist. Like they say in show business, "there's no such thing as bad press," even when you push the hot button of the abortion debate. The interesting thing here is that the pro-life movement is angry about the sculpture too. They feel its degrading to their movement. The artist explains while its a departure from the usual bloody imagery, he only intended to depict the singer as she portrays herself—sexy.

Read more about it at BBC, Media Girl or American Girl. Don't miss this great piece of satire.
